  2. Heard that might have extended day or two shut down for Thanksgiving. For Christmas extended shutdown maybe into first week of January.Dan when are you going to let the team members of local 363 know about this? Some of us would like to make plans.

  3. i know we have to supply the customer but why cant have 30 days notice for extended shut downs.especially in the fall and winter months when sales are down. so we can schedule our vacations so we dont lose money.

  4. I agree. If we have to be without work at least I would like to use my vacation time during the holidays. Can a notice be put into the contract?

  5. proud to be an American 363 memberOctober 31, 2010 at 8:44 PM

    Sam,
You must have some pull! A president of the United States! At the IBEW!Harriman! Holy cow! I heard Metal container came up is that true? Was he interested in how we feel to be represented by an American Union and owned by a foreign Company? Did he say how important it was that our rights will be protected by the IBEW. Did he say how the politicians know that keeping jobs in the US is a top priority. The unions in the area are strong and this is a very important item to remember. Together we influence many, we have leverage and strength. Resources are an important tool in making sure the job gets done. Thank the president for coming and caring enough to ask when you talk to him again. Tell him they have my vote if they help protect American workers. Go 363! Go America!

  8. why dont we stop calling it a "shutdown" and call it what it really is a LAYOFF. one of managements biggest points was that nonunion plants never have layoffs, well what is this?? not only that but this is about the sixth time that i can remember it happening. so yes guys it is REALLY important we get a contract with things in writing like layoff procedures.

  11. Dakota, glad to see someone is watching.thanks for keeping vigil for the rest of everyone else. Some times I think that the people have too much confidence in the union! So much that they think everybody can relax and enjoy the ride to happiness. Well they are partially right! Yes I have confidence in the union and the reps. but people have to remember it is us who control the future. It was us that made a change and us who will make sure we protect our families and that we dont forget the reasons why we voted to have 363 represent us.
We are a giant that has fallen asleep under the blanket of protection called the IBEW.We need to get out of bed and get back to work!Lets show the company how big the giant is! Breaktime over, lets go people time to rise and shine. Its contract time. Lets get the job done. let me here from you. Tell me what you think about some issues that are still on your mind.

  12. retired can dog eating alpoNovember 4, 2010 at 7:25 PM

Im retired now from Metal Container and found out what I gotta pay for the same coverage as those of you who are going to have Anthem. My part is $1260.00 they pay $333.00.
Last year my payment was 673.00. mine went up obviously. I wish we had a union before so I had it in writing. I tell you this for your benefit not mine. In writing only then will you guys know what your future will be. Mine is uncertain and we all know the costs go up. I will never know ahead of time but you can in your contract

    ReplyDelete
  13. Your kidding, so that means the company is paying $1600.00 a month for a policy? Last year they paid $1006.00 for a policy? That means at 28% = $281.68 per month that was for husband and wife coverage in 2010. in 2012 at 35% of $1600.00 is $560.00 per month.Thats if the policy is still $1600.00 per month. Do you think the price is going to stay at 2010 prices? It went up 600.00 in one year. whats next? what about after that? I think its time to ask some serious questions. Does this add up.

Hows the contract going Sam? Are we there yet?

  15. Hey can dog eating alpo this is bullshit that you are taking that hit with your payout for health insurance on retirement. They are not increasing our payout so that means they are playing possum with the union contract coming up. it stinks that they are picking on you retiree's that have worked the system and made this company lots of money. I hope everyone see's this and realizes that our fight is not nearly done with this company. Everyone lets keep hitting this blog and giving your views and lets charge into this contract negotiations and get whats fair for us. we even need a little fight for our friends that have retired and help stop the company from beating on them also.. Lets keep up the fight and always GO 363 Union all the way and always.

  16. Hey all you union people out there lets keep up the good fight. Union contract coming soon, lets fire up this blog and get everyone moving again. We are all behind this and ready to roar so lets kick some goddamn ass and run with this.

Is this true? or is somebody making this up? Reps please tell us what you can at work. I know you cant share details about our contract but am I looking at more than double the costs in 2012? Please let us know because the company told us already that we gotta pay 35% in the future.

I dont understand why the retired people had such an increase in their portion for benefits. Are we going to have to pay alot more next year?

    ReplyDelete
  29. What about the year after that. If you dont have a contract you have no way of knowing period.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What about the pension. Is that going to change? Somebody tell me something please!

    ReplyDelete
  31. It will be in the contract. All concerned will be addressed during negotiated. I know its hard to be patient but the process is moving forward. Thank you for your concern. I wish more people would speak up for their concerns.

  32. Want to know what's going on?

    Come to the meetings.

What's the progress of the contract?

    Come to the meetings.

    Apple picking can wait.

Unless that's training for your next career.

If your job, your pay, your retirement, your benefits are important to you.

    It's time to prioritize.

It's time to support your reps and come to the meeting.

Don't ask 'em at work, they can't say nuthin'.

    Come to the meetings.

  33. I work all day with all the effort I can give. My feet hurt my wife nags and the kids cry. Who the hell are you to tell me what I should do. I care what goes on, but I have to take care of my family. I want the union to help me thats why I voted yes. I want the info, why cant you tell me on the blog. What difference does it make if the company knows what we want? they are going to find out anyway. Whats the big deal. please explain.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I do support the meetings with my reps. I ask them questions and I tell them my concerns whats the problem?I voted for you guys now get it done. I wanna know.

    ReplyDelete
  35. How about this you hard working employee! Ask Dan K what the company is going to offer? Ask them what they are going to give you for your hard work for the next year? Ask Tony what commitment he is willing to give to you for next year. Ask him what he is willing to sign to keep you as a dedicated employee. Ask him why he didnt want to make a commitment to you before a union showed up. Wake up, its not your brothers who wont commit. its the company. Its only the company who will say no to a raise. only Tony will cut your pension. You should be glad that others are willing to stand up for you and your family. Dont get pissed at them get mad at the company for giving your raise to the wealthy top managers and nothing to your family.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Listen,
I know you have the itch to know. We all do. The company wont tell you what they are willing to give. Thats understandable. This is a game for the rich and a way of life for the rest of us.Support your brothers. They are working for our best interests.Patience is a virtue. Only the good comes to those who wait. These are things you hear your entire life. They are experiences of life. Have peace with yourself. Time has already exposed to you the right choice for us. We have not been charged the increase in medical like the retired folks. This is an example of karma. be one with all. peace to all.

  37. 8:34, you are so right! It's OK to be in the silent majority. Keep your low profile, but when you want to know what's going on, go to a meeting. 2 hours of your time can mean the difference in 1095 days. That's a 3 year contract. 9:20, nobody is telling you what to do. Just communicate your support for your reps efforts. Meeting attendance is desired, but you know what? You had the time to write your blurb on the blog, use the blog to voice your support. Tell any one you are close to, if you can't show face, blog yourself into the race. Catchy, huh? Vocal support is the key! Show it! Do not be the "Silent Majority". As the naysayer stated on an earlier blog, the reps are all in it for themselves, well, yes we are. If I can get it for me, I got it for you too! We(the contract committee)are writing what we believe will be a document we all can be proud of, management included. I'm sorry we can't help the retirees, it's beyond our reach right now, but, we might be able to protect future pensioners.
9:26: We are getting it done. Sorry we are so tight lipped, but to quote WW2 jargon, "Loose lips sink ships". Don't worry, when we have it all together you will get to read the 70+ page document and vote on it. It's your future, we worked hard to try and make your future more secure. A lot of the "what are we doing" questions are things that can only be addressed at the bargaining table, we really don't have answers to those questions. Management doesn't either. Bear with us, the process, support us, loudly.
    Thanks

  38. Hey Candog eating alpo! Are you still in NY? Try HealthyNY. org or com or gov I forget. If you make X$$$/ year fixed income you might be able to get coverage from MVP, B/C,B/S etc for a lot less than these bastards that are soaking you for on COBRA or however your benefit is administered. At least check it out. Then you can thank our esteemed government for allowing corrupt companies, as our has become,to rape what you worked for and were entitled to. COBRA is a snake and it will bite you. Our sympathy is with you. Thank you Brito for fucking the American worker. This isn't Brazil. Hopefully someone will get Stella right in her Hoegarten (I don't know how to make the little dots over the "o") and she'll be at everyone's Beck's and call. Getting it from Brahma swinging his LaBatt.
Just my perception of the money whore's that run this once great American company. Welcome to the third world!

  39. "I work all day with all the effort I can give."

    Me too.

"My feet hurt my wife nags and the kids cry."

My dogs are screaming every day, and the wife nags and the cry .... sometimes scream."

"Who the hell are you to tell me what I should do."

'Cause I'm the guy who's livin' a life like yours, and I understand a fact that you may have missed. The Union is not some entity that is going to save the day. The Union is YOU. The Union is ME. The Union is all of us United, to stand together, to take care the needs of our families. The Union is US. I make the meetings, and it makes things tough, but right now it's time to be tough, to fight for what is right and fair. Sorry I upset you Brother, but I need you next to me in this fight. I can't do it alone. Come help me, fight for my family, and I'll fight for yours. We'll have sore feet together, piss and moan about the wife and kids ..... together. Help ME, help US, help WE .... the Union.

"I care what goes on, but I have to take care of my family."

I understand, I'm in the same boat. How are you going to take care of your family when the cut your pay, cut your benefits, end your retirement, cut the manning so at the end of the day you can't even stand let alone walk? That's why I need you beside me. Stand with me.

"I want the union to help me that's why I voted yes."

"That's why I voted them in too. Again, the Union is not some outside group that is going to fix all the problems. The Union is YOU and ME. Stand with me.

"I want the info, why cant you tell me on the blog."

When your playing poker, do you show the people your playing with your cards?

"What difference does it make if the company knows what we want?"

That's what the negotiations are for. Do you think the company will show you what their plans are in the next five years? If you had come to the meetings you would have seen what the company is planning to do, and it's not good. Stand with me.

"they are going to find out anyway. Whats the big deal. please explain.

Hopefully I just did. Stand with me, Fight beside me, we need your input, we need your help.

    This is important.

    YOU ARE THE UNION.

The only one that is going to help you take care of your family is YOU, and ME, and the rest of the Brothers and Sisters united as one.

I'll rephrase, because I can often be too blunt.

You have a desire to take care of your family?

    PLEASE come to the meetings.

Sorry i upset you Bro, but I need you, we need you.

Help me take care of my family, and I'll help you take care of yours.

    Stand with me.

  41. to union brother said,
some times you have to let some of the apples rot because its more important to get a broken pipe or the leaky roof fixed first.(meetings). without the dwelling the apples don't really matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not harping on anyone but sometimes you have to do the boring things or the things you don't really like to do. (meetings) to make sure your life is in good order. do you go to the doctor for check up's? do you get insurance ahead of an issue? This is no difference EVERYONE MUST TRY AT SOME TIME OR ANOTHER TO STAY OR GET INVOLVED .

THE UNION IS NO DIFFERENT THAN THE YANKEES OR THE GIANTS,JETS ECT. ALL THE PLAYERS MUST SHOW UP TO HELP OR YOU CAN HANG YOUR HATS UP AND GO HOME EARLY. I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME EARLY NEVER. I WANT TO WIN. I DO WIN. I ALWAYS WIN. THAT IS MY MOTTO.

    I AM A WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE ARE A PROFESSIONAL TEAM AS WELL.
WE MUST SHOW UP AND WE MUST GET PAID TO SURVIVE.

    THE KEY IS PARTICIPATION!!!!!!!!!!

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS WAIT FOR THE STAR PLAYER TO MAKE THE BIG PLAY TO WIN. IF EVERYONE ON THE TEAM PUTS THERE (A) GAME FORWARD WE ARE AN UNSTOPPABLE FORCE AN UNBEATABLE TEAM.THIS IS TRUE EVEN IN REAL LIFE.
TEACH YOUR CHILDREN HOW GREAT A COUNTRY WE LIVE IN BY SHOWING THEM HOW MUCH PRIDE DADDY OR MOMMY HAS BY TAKING TIME OUT OF YOUR IMPORTANT DAILY ACTIVITIES TO ATTEND A MEETING THAT HAS TO DUE WITH THE DIRECTION OF YOURS AND THERE FUTURES!!!!!!!!

I KNOW IT'S TOUGH I HAVEN'T MISSED ONE MEETING YET. SURE THERE'S BEEN PLENTY OF TIMES WHEN I SAID THERE WILL BE OTHERS TO GO,THEY'LL LISTEN FOR ME AND TELL ME , THEY DON'T NEED ME THERE. BUT I SAY TO MYSELF, SELF - WHAT IF I MISS SOMETHING IMPORTANT AND WHAT IF ONLY A FEW PEOPLE GO. WHAT IF PEOPLE WANT TO SEE ME THERE. TALK TO ME AND SEE WHAT MY OPINION IS AS WELL,WHAT KIND OF SUPPORTER AM I?

ASK YOUR SELVES WHAT KIND OF SUPPORTER ARE YOU?

DO YOU SIT ON THE SIDELINES OR IN THE STANDS AND WISH YOU COULD BE IN THE GAME. WELL NOW YOU CAN BE.
GET IN THE GAME A PLAY BALL.

FIX THE LEAKY ROOF OF LEAKY PIPE FIRST THE APPLES CAN LAY THERE FOR THE DEER TO EAT!!!

YOU NEED A ROOF OVER YOUR HEADS FIRST AND FOREMOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE APPLES,LAWN NEEDS MOWING,THE LAUNDRY NEEDS TO BE DONE, ECT,ECT. THE TEAMS THAT WIN FIND A WAY TO DO IT ALL!!!! AND DO IT GOOD. PUT YOUR MEAN FACE ON PUT YOUR I CAN DO IT FACE ON. BECAUSE ( WE CAN ) ALL DO IT.

THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH TO ALL OF THE TEAM THAT HAS HELPED US GET TO THIS POINT SO FAR. HOPEFULLY THE SECONDARY OR THE OUTFIELD, BULLPEN HAS OUR BACK THROUGH THE REST OF OUR PROFESSIONAL CAREER!
