Worth Reading - Pass It On

We are moving forward as planned and as we discussed at our meetings. I would like to thank the many people who have been putting much time into helping to develop what will become a written contract.

I cannot stress enough that IBEW Local 363 is a union that wants the company to be profitable and we want them to have product to ship, when they need it. We are a cooperative organization that can respect management and look out for the interest of our people at the same time.

That is a winning combination. One we can ALL surely agree upon as desirable.

Your Reps are working hard studying what we have, what we want, what we need, what the company needs, what the company wants. Soon we will meet with the company to begin negotiations. We have had many suggestions and most were the same as the committees so we have good representation of the issues here.

Thank you to everyone who gave in suggestions in person, by phone, by email or through your reps.

As we move closer to bargaining,
we will keep you informed of what is going on through the blog.

We will be having a meeting of ALL MCC workers on all crews shortly to give an overview of where we are going and to discuss some topics that are important to all of us. THE MEETING DATES WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON THIS SITE SOON. Have some questions? Come to the meeting and get an answer - the right answer.

The reps will not be discussing bargaining on the floor or answering questions about bargaining.

The fact is that would undermine our position. You WILL be informed of all progress and all attitudes - good and bad, company proposals, certain bargaining issues on the blog or at a meeting should we need to meet on a subject. You can comment as issues are posted there.

You are all together now. To the few left who don't understand the concept of joining together - You can fight about car racing, the Yankees, the Jets or whatever - but you CAN"T fight about standing up for what is fair for you and your fellow workers. It does not make sense to fight against your own welfare.

Nobody HERE is the enemy. And neither is the company - if they are fair.

If you have a suggestion you can still pass it through to the reps. We will always look at everything we get.

You guys are doing great. Keep up the good work and the good attitudes. Be heard here and support the concept of working together and the need for a fair written contract.

LOOK ON HERE SOON FOR THE DATES AND TIMES OF THE
NEXT MEETING OF ALL MCC WORKERS ON ALL SHIFTS.

We are working hard to present a contract that will be beneficial to everyone, team members and company. Sam is correct when he says that if we, the negotiating commitee, should not discuss our bargaining strategy, positions or proposals. It will hurt and could compromise our bargaining strength. A kind of variation of "don't ask, don't tell". Please continue to provide your suggestions, needs, comments. There is still time for more inclusion into the process. Help us help us all. We have made progress, enough to ask the company to come to the table. Thank you for your continued support and help.

  2. I want to thank all the other reps for being so passionate on getting this contract right.
To the company, you should be grateful to the people who sat through these meetings. They not only had the union members best interests in mind, they also kept the companies best interests also.

  3. I haven't had the best relationship with many managers at the plant.

Some take terrible advantage of the workers, their position, and their superiors. But ..... the crosswords are done very well.

Some, you can work your tail off and it's never good enough, or worse you don't hear a thing.

Some promote poor work ethics in their employees and show favoritism.

Some, if you look up Bi-Polar in the dictionary, their picture is there.

    It's a shame.

There is an exception, in my opinion.

    Holly Hickman.

She tries. She works. She helps. She offers appreciation. As best as she can from her perspective, I think she tries to understand.

    I like working for her.

I wish we had more managers like her.

With Holly and the way she manages, I think we, meaning MCC and the IBEW, could really make things work.

My opinion, flame suit on, so flame away.

I think it's time to start reading and sharing some good things.

Lets make MCC and IBEW work!

  5. I agree with you also. In all my dealings with Holly she has been fair. When you ask a question she gives you a direct answer, when she doesn't know she finds out and really does get back to you. She should be an example to the other managers that her approach and style of management works.
No need for the flame suit.

  8. It is good to hear Holly is doing a good job and has not been influenced by Warren and his terrible syle of managing if you want to call it that. This is why the union is important to the facility though, you have something good and it will be gone soon and you will be dealing with someone with a new perspective on everything. Having written policy does not allow anyone to manipulate the rules. The managment team are like gypsies and if you want any consistancy you need a contract. Thanks rep teams.

  9. very good point! The contract will always remain the constant even though management is always changing. That is a great thought. Now I want it more than I thought I did!

  10. YES- YES WE KEEP TRYING TO BETTER OURSELVESOctober 19, 2010 at 12:59 PM

holly does work very hard at her job. you can clearly see that compared to what we have seen over the years. remember one thing, who ever has left there current position to run a crew for a period of time don't always follow many of the things there supposed to follow when there in there salaried positions. another words when there in there salaried positions they critic the things the crews do during there 12 hrs. but when it comes time to run the crew it seems like those (important) items aren't as important anymore. ie: quality. there's other thing but --------
not trying to pick too much just stating an observation. why does the importance of that change, is it because as a manager of a crew your held to certain goals, ie: production,hi-fi's ect. so we ALL do what we can to have low to no hi-fi's and hi quality production!!!
LONG STORY SHORT: WHEN THE SALARIED STAFF RUNS A CREW FOR A WHILE AND THEN IT'S TIME TO GO BACK TRY TO BE THE SAME AS YOU WERE WHEN YOU RAN THE CREW FOR THAT PERIOD IN TIME. WE ALL FORM CERTAIN BONDS IN A BUSINESS WAY IT WOULD BE NICE IF WE CAN KEEP IT THAT WAY AS WELL.
ANOTHER WORDS DON'T CHANGE SO MUCH JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE DIFFERENT ROLLS OR TITLES.

    THANK YOU MUCH.
