WOW!! 80,000 Hits! Thanks For The Support!

80,000 hits on this site! That is amazing. Every one of those hits and words written on this site had to do with you - the can makers at Newburgh MCC. 80,000 hits watching what the workers at a plant in Newburgh would decide to do when faced with a choice to have a voice or not.

Very soon, we will go to the negotiating table for every one of those workers - to help them have a voice and a contract for their time and their labor.

The people at that negotiating table will be the same people who make the cans.

The best news of all is that those people respect their employer and their job, in addition to themselves. Now they will find out who else really feels the same way they do.

During the campaign, we had meetings on both sides and both the union and the company representatives claimed to have your best interest at heart. We both claimed we truly cared about your future and we both said that we would do everything we could to make it a great future.

Next week we both go to the negotiating table. IBEW Local 363 is going to that negotiating table with fairness and your benefit in mind.

If the company comes to the negotiating table with the same mindset, it will be the start of a great relationship and you will all gain from that relationship. Let's look forward to that happening!

Stay strong, stay solid and support yourselves. Become part of the movement.

  2. Rock you are sooooo correct. Bhalla led them around on a leash. Revisited sites in the afterlunch (1.5 hour for lunch) put on the "I'm not a happy Tony" face then locked them up a coupla 3 hours in the conference room. I'm sure it was how can we blame the union, how can we influence the negotiations. It was shit by their own design. Dan K. hasn't smiled since last early last August but he was all happy guy this morning. Why? He has a scapegoat:us. Even though they did it. They treat us like kids and they are the ones who should grow up. Tony should learn to see the difference between business and personal. One week before contract negotiations are to start? C'mon you can't be this transparent. This was a "power projection" visit. Made by a 15 watt bulb. What was the purpose? Who was intimidated? One last chance to say "I'm mad at the kids". "The Kids" say it's you own hangover. We were all impressed by your lack of "the personal touch" now we are a union facility. We will continue to be productive and prove we are above your childish scorn.

  3. I must confess, I'm feeling buyer's remorse at this point....

But it's not towards 363, Tony. It's towards YOU!

Why did we ever work hard enough to get you where you are today? So you could try to screw us and our families out of what we worked so hard for?

You'll know me next time we meet. I will no longer shake your hand...just turn away from your phony smile, and maybe, if you get far enough under my skin, say "you blew it, pal".

Hopefully that Bypass will show up soon and we can disinfect the plant from your visit, then get back to GOOD business, as usual!

Some of us wanted to think you were better than this, Tony...

    How wrong we were.

  4. I have aquestion. When "Tony" flew here last night did he have to go through the TSA "body scanner x-ray"? I can tell you what they found. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. A man without substance, running solely on the power given to him by others who are still blinded and can't see through his transparency. Nothing to offer, nothing to give. Feeling betrayed by the very people who let him step on them to make his mark. A man admonished in 1995 by a Federal Labor Judge for nearly perjuring himself on the stand after a failed union vote and subsequent witch hunt. (See NLRB.org/MCC) Foiled this time and unable to exact his revenge on the voting majority "ingrates" for rejecting his "benevolence". Exposed for what he really is. A transparent, vengeful, spoiled person. When will the real stories come out? In Jax the blogger said he showed up with the "new plant manager" and promptly "retired" the old, a 29 year employee. The intranet used their propaganda cliche "to persue other interests". FIRED. Was it a warm up for Newburgh? The way he carried himself at our plant today was an embarressment to all, hourly and manager alike. A manager wouldn't do a little victory dance because"he's too professional for that" but apparently our chief of operations MCC doesn't live by the rules he expects from others. Thanks for not acknowledging my existence today Mr. Bhalla. You have solidified my resolve to do everything I can to make this union work. Your behaviour today displayed your true colors. We are the worker/slaves to be abused and you and yours are the elite to be rewarded. Are you listening Windsor? Mira Loma? maybe Brito should have sold Mr. Bhalla to Ball and kept the other plants. His morale boosting abilities are being wasted here. Plus he blew about $1500 to come here for a day and a half and be rude. Great image for the kinder, gentler AB Inbev. So much for loyalty. A Yuengling or Sam Adams seems quite appropriate right now. American owned/American made. Thanks for setting the tone for our contract negotiation, now it is a concerted, united front. Long winter.
You have turned your back on us, so be it. We will continue to perform the best we can. Maybe someone like Pete Kraemer will see through your act and get a real pro in to run the packaging group, not a megalomaniac who believes all those yes men around him. Where's Joe Selenger when you need him?

    ReplyDelete
  5. oh let Tony have his tantrum already! he's hurt that we somehow discovered that we weren't sheep but actually thinking humans capable of discrete thought. This was truly sad when the best we could have hoped for was to be sold to Ball; now it can be much better...we can work together, the question is Tony, will your ego allow it?

Hear it well. We all knew the plant looked like shit. Without cleaning supplies, how the hell could you expect anything else? Hope you can inject some reality before it's too late!

  6. tony tony tony,
why the sour puss. All the problems that we have as a company you yourself let happen. Lets see why you werent happy. The plant didnt look good.Huh. why? Why arent you asking your managers why? No cleaning supplies? How can this be?
Tony, this company was built by experienced people. They knew what it took to make cans. They knew the process. They made this company on a great idea. They creatity an entity that used the knowledge to guide the decisions and experience to implement them.
You creatited what we have today. You hire inexperienced yes men. They cant even change the strap on a strapper. How can they possibly know the right decisions to make without asking the people on the floor.
That leads me to my next point. We have a chance to create a new company.one that will utilize the experience that the people on the floor have. we have a chance to create a new entity that will utilize the union to its fullest potential. Imagine that you could exploit the knowlegde of the people on the floor with their cooperation. All the other plants are in the process of becoming unionized.
You are at a crossroads. You can choose to dominate the industry and exploit the union workers for their knowledge or dont and continue on the path that has brought you to the brink. its your choice. I would recommend choosing the one with the most potential.
We hourlies are ready to make history in America. Lets do it together and show the country we can work together to form a dynasty that no other company can compete with and one others will use as a bench mark. either way its your decision. we want to make history and be the best . what do you want?

  7. Tony,
would really like to know if you read this blog and how much weight do you assign it on your scale?
Can't see how you would totally dismiss it, there has to be some curiosity in your thought process on what is out there, much like a second opinion you would seek when troubleshooting a problem. I think it is fair to approach it as such.
If you do and I'm sure you've been on it since day one, why not use it, even as "anonymus" to ask the same questions you used in your closed door meetings for a second opinion to troubleshoot those issues that make you unhappy?
    I think that is reasonable.
If I was in your position I would, because I would really try to find the root cause. If you want to really see tridimensional in space you need to use both eyes (stereoscopic vision) or look at the same thing from two different points of view. Use our expertise.
I don't know what happened with your visit but by reading the blog it appears hourlies were not too happy. Maybe you were also not too happy. Ask and you may find out.
You've built a lot of credit with some of us over the years, even though some of the things associated with you have eroded some of that credit. Not much left and not many fans of Tony left either. I believe that the position of the company at the negotiating table will be exactly what you dictate, what you think we're worth. It came across between the lines in most all of your communications. It will be up to you to re-establish you credit and your fan-base with what will be on the table or wipe it all off. Much more than that, in case you don't care what we think of you, you'll be "making adjustments" the "human resource" of the plant for the future, not unlike we adjust the printer after a label change, make the right adjustment and it will be a good run, cut corners and it will be a struggle.
I hope you do the right thing.
Do you remember what you used to tell us when you first got the job as plant manager: pay me now or pay me later? I think it still applies. I would say that was, and must be still, one of your core traits, be practical.
    Be that now!
You will get what you pay for.
Don't be looking for a gold Omega watch in Wal-Mart.
I hope you have a good Thanksgiving.

  14. Trying to send a massage Tony? Ok, which lie are you going to tell the NLRB this time. You are a documented liar. Its even on record for all to see. You lost the trust of the people years ago when you lied and were chastised by a judge. I have no confidence you are capable of telling the truth.I have no belief that you would tell the truth. You were on record a couple of months ago telling us that we had contracts for years and that we are having trouble keeping up with demand. So which lie are you going with this time

  15. I cant believe they would pull this kind of shit.Do they think we are that stupid. Are they that stupid? Fine, playing games is what they want.
Peoples lives are on the line here.Shutting down lines to influence negotiations? How can any manager hold their heads up and align themselves with these scumbags. The best they can do now is shut their mouths. let Tony go down on his own. If they stand with him they can be accountable as well.

  16. Go ahead plant managers justify this action.Tell us how important we make as many cans as possible. tell us how its for our own good. Just to be out of a job.

  17. Eagle Eye good analysis. One point though. Tony Bhalla never asks a question unless he knows the answer. Not much if you really want to learn, but.... My point is, did he question any hourlies during his mope-a-thon? None that I know of. He questioned managers behind closed doors, he ragged on nit-picky things to those managers. If he was sending some kind of message, well, other than the fact he didn't acknowledge or interact with too many hourlies, I don't know. I'm not telepathic. It was an act to put on a war face before the negotiations start. A kind of intimidation, show of force. Had all the effect of a fart in church and pissed off alot of the people he was trying to scare. We've been down this road before, from the wrong side of the road, now we're on the right side of the road and he's running interference. I guess he just can't be magnanimous in losing anything, like his "influence" over his herd of sheep at MCC#9. It had nothing to do with "inker maintenance" or any of the other lies we were told, once again. This was a projection of power, "I'm in charge and I decide who gets what!" If he wants to be beligerent, well maybe we can read about him in the NLRB website again. I hope not.

  18. Im wondering if the way Tony is acting ,if he isnt trying to provoke a response or just trying to scare people into deciding on taking a weak contract in order to prevent being shut down. if that is the case, isnt that an act of a desperate man. The average person would see that would they shut down money making plants.Jacksonville reduction is temporary? right? all this did was confirm the fact that we made the right choice becoming a union.None of the plants are safe, if they have to shut down lines. That means that the company is doing that poorly. The decision makers are failing to make the choices to make the company successful. This company was built to leverage pricesby being the best in cost and quality. Are we still able to do that? I guess not. we used to be expanding taking away from the poorly run plants through out the country and put them out of business because they couldnt adapt and compete. If this is the case how could Brito allow such poor performance.Answer, its not true. lets see what net profits are this year we are almost there. They have to disclose because they are a public owned company to investors. Lets see just how bad things really are.

All this is designed to do is disrupt our negotiations, scare off the possibility of union challenges in Mira Loma and Windsor, and send a message to all the plants: we can do whatever we want at any given time and control the flow of production to suit our political needs at the moment. ie: We own you, union or not. Mr. Bhalla is having a hissy fit. He thinks he is GOD raining down the seven, yes, count'em 7, plagues upon the blasphemers who dare challenge his absolute rule and decree. He is trying to punish his whole realm (MCC) because we went union and other union plants supported our effort. Now he is crying poverty, shutting down lines, closing plants over holiday seasons, plants that were told 6 months ago of all the sales and business we have, don't make plans for holidays, we're running. Yeah, right. It's a new form of union busting. Well, if this is how he feels, we can also voice our displeasure in our own personal ways. Can't wait to see the stockholder report. I am an independant stockholder (not tied to my 401K)I might have to question my broker on just what the *@#%!! is up with this company! Bulletins when they happen.

So, I guess the consensus has it: Mr. Bhalla is having a company wide temper tantrum. Maybe he should be grounded. No more trips to any plants Ranjive, because where you used to scare people into submission, you now piss them off. This isn't the way to win over the workforce. Maybe you should be sent packing, as you are not an asset but are quickly becoming a boil on the butt of humanity, to be lanced at the first opportunity. A true detriment to the company. There is no respect, the late Rodney Dangerfield got more than you right now. Your approval rating is hovering around zero. Too bad there is no way to rank in the negative. You can be assured the Newburgh plant will have close to 100% response to the upcoming climate survey. Maybe we'll read that "Mr. Bhalla has chosen to pursue other interests".
    Cue up some Stones
"You Can't Always Get What You Want".
P.S. The "incompetant person" he hired to run the CPO's doesn't order that kind of supplies. Blame the Corporate purchasing process that Mr. Bhalla instituted to save money so he can get a bigger bonus for saving money. I know, it sounds like a dumb system, save us money so we can give it to you, but, welllllll, IT IS!!!! Ask the ex-CEO of GM, he'll explain how it works. (Good thing we have an airport close by so he can fly in for his presentation). I hope he has an advance team here to drive him to the plant because we're not allowed to leave and pick him up.

  24. I have to agree that Tony has finally broken a good company. The morale in all the plants are low. Their is no confidence in the leadership of this company.
Indeed it is a bad time for everyone involved. This could be the demise of the entire ABINBEV company. The breweries are going to be watching what transpires to gauge how they are going to have to negotiate.
This will inturn be a demotivator for a company that used to be the #1 in the industry. We can see already the decline in market share. Soon quality will suffer. then the customer. Then our market share of cans will fall. I hate to paint this bleak future but the writing is on the wall.
This all formed from poor decision making.Brito must rethink his fearless stance as fear keeps you alive. It stops one from making bad decisions like stepping in front of a train.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Its not that MCC isn't making money, its the fact that we overproduced. In order to keep our numbers in line to score high on gainshare which management now depends on for their living we made alot more cans then we can sell. The economy and the time of years has slowed can sales to a halt but we still are required to make the same amount each day.No storage space, running out of dunnage, cans outside of expiration day have all contributed to where we are at.The company said we have 50 million cans too much in inventory here in the south, so they are shutting down one of our lines for basically 25 days at 2 mil a day.Thats their story and their sticking to it.Watching and waiting in Jacksonville.

    ReplyDelete
  27. We are the IBEW now!! Lets stick together. Work hard and be the best can plant in the world. The contract will make things better. Cant wait to sign. Need the extra cash. Friends, we need our unions now

Thieves grow rich and liars prosper,
    Milking profit's sacred cow.
They make war to make their money,
How we need our unions now.

One man's pay for three men's labour,
    Bosses' powers enshrined in law.
When our rights are torn and trampled,
How we need our unions more.

    Women's rights and women's wages,
    Fiercely fought and barely won,
    Children's care and education,
Go where all our hopes have gone.

Shake the souls of union leaders,
Shout the message clear and plain,
Leave the desk, desert the boardroom,
    Fight the workers' cause again.

Quiet words did not avail us,
    Patience only earned defeat,
    Unity's our only answer,
Join your unions on the street.

Stand with us and swell the numbers,
    We are the majority.
Sing in chorus, raise the banners,
    Union is victory.

  30. Ive been watching alot of negative feelings being displayed on this blog lately. I can understand the anxiety and fear of the unknown. We need to do just a couple of things to make and keep us strong, secure and confident that our future will endure.
Number one is to do our jobs the best we can and make sure we lead the company in all aspects.Safety, protect the customers, quality, production, cost.
Being the best makes us more valuable to this and any company. There are going to be cans made in the U.S. for a long time to come. They are still the easiest to transport, stack, chill quickly and change appearance of.
It doesnt matter what Tony does or doesnt do.We can make no other choice for our company other than use us to supply the north east with cans. regardless of our competition if we do it with the best quality and the cheapest cost.
Housekeeping is important but in the priorities of the big picture its peanuts. Tony knows that. If Thats the only reason he has to be pissed we are doing good.
Lets not hammer Tony too much yet.If he will agree to be agressive pursuing new business then thats what we want and need. For him and us. But if he isnt doing his job then we want the best for the company and need to help the company realize this. Tony isnt perfect, Im sure he has admitted that a few times in the last few months. He has to be under the microscope with Brito. Every move Tony makes is either predetermined by the Northern Zone or reported to them. Either way they are watching what is going on. If metal container begins to falter and not achieve the tasks that the company wants then change will come for all of us again.

  32. Unionman that is true, but, you don't go home and kick the wife and beat the dog. Or is it the other way around? You don't treat your people like so much dust to be swept up. Perhaps a little get together with the people who help him keep his job would have been in order. Not some fly through, no interaction, treat the workers as if they were automatons attached to the machinery. A lot of mixed signals were sent. Who's cages was he here to rattle? Was there supposed to be some kind of trickle down cage rattling? It is understood that Mr. Bhalla's initiatives are all being dictated by the Northern Zone but his behaviour at this point in time, with contract negotiations to begin next Monday, were quite inappropriate. It was an unprofessional display and seemed to be unsettling to managers and hourlies alike. What was the message being conveyed? Who knows? The purpose? Only those behind the closed doors know. It didn't win any points with the team members. I'm sure we'll all find out in the future as the MCC bucket of water always leaks.

  36. "This guy Sam??" This guy Sam is getting ready to negotiate on your behalf. That's where this guy Sam has been - all day and night, weekdays and weekends by the way. Have you made any suggestions about those negotiations or are you just the company PC referee?

Yes, the people have been venting a little....

    Big deal.

    Interesting Observation....from your words...

""WE are starting to think the emotons are creating infighting and weakness."

Who is WE? Is it really YOU - a person against the plant coming together in the first place?

"So where is this guy Sam lately?" This guy Sam is right where he should be - don't ever worry about that. I am getting ready to negotiate for you and everyone in that plant.

"Get some control of YOUR team's emotions here or it will be THEIR own undoing."

"YOUR team????" "THEIR OWN UNDOING? That explains where you stand in all this.....there is no "YOUR" team....it's "OUR" TEAM.

"..or it will be THEIR own undoing."

Sounds to me like you are on the other side.......

So stop crying about the big boys being talked about by the little people who feel slighted and start supporting your damn coworkers.

...and by the way, I am around all the time - don't ever wonder where "that guy Sam is"

    note to all posters....

Please be sensitive to peoples feeling as best as you can without losing your steam so others like this person don't have to worry about how "OUR" team is doing in the PC World.

It's amazing to me that with wages, health care and retirements in play this person is worried about being fresh.

Thank God the majority of you guys know what this is all about. Granted, some people are a little more frustrated than others - but it is not the end of the world. There have been some not so nice things said about me and my buddy here didn't jump to my defense, did he?

....and I don't care a bit about that.

    So now onto Monday.

hey, look 11:06A.M., I love you, but lets get contract just because we ask for it. we know real about how things are going to be. we're not getting everything we ask for in the we've been done wrong for a long time now. we know we're owed something. but what will it be.

the reps have worked hard(thank you reps, i wouldn't want your job) and are going to put forward the contract most people want. WE still have to vote on it. WE will make the final decision. WE will decide if it's good, or not. WE will have a vote on OUR future.

May the glory of GOD reign over these negotiations and pass blessings upon all those involved(and most of all management to allow them to see what is right).

  47. Hey 9.30 post. I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE nice try on trying to derail the freight train. you should really hang it up. what you wrote is laughable. who uses the word (nonbeliever) to refer to weather you are for a union or against. you are either for it or against it. not a ( NONBELIEVER) are you really that insecure where you would use the word ( NONBELIEVER)???

GREAT CAMPAIGN OF NON BELIEVERS. OUT OF ALL OF THESE COMMENTS OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS THERE ARE ONLY A FEW PEOPLE (COMMENTS) OVER 80,000 OF THEM WHO HAVE WRITTEN IN AND THAT ARE STILL SITTING ON THE FENCE. THOSE HAVE BEEN THERE FOR SO LONG THAT THEY ARE PROBABLY IMPALED THEIR ANY WAY.

your inept attempt at trying to sway some people away from the 363 is one of the oldest tricks in the book. can't you come up with a better way. WELL OF COURSE YOU CAN'T THAT IS WHY THE UNION WAS ASKED TO COME TO OUR PLANT IN THE FIRST PLACE!! WE ALL KNOW WHO YOU PROBABLY ARE. YOUR TALK IS CHEAP AND FROM THE WAY YOU ARE TALKING IT'S LIKE YOUR TALKING FROM A THIRD PARTY STANCE SO YOU ARE ALL TOO OBVIOUS IN YOUR LAME ACT OF TRYING TO PRETEND YOUR A TEAM MEMBER.

WHY DO I KNOW IT IS A LAME ATTEMPT? BECAUSE I AM A STEWARD AND I TALK TO MANY,MANY TEAM MEMBERS ON ALL CREWS. I AM FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE ON ALL CREWS. I KNOW A FEW THAT DID NOT WANT A UNION IN HERE BUT HAVE CHANGED THERE MINDS. WHY? BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU! I KNOW A COUPLE THAT DID NOT WANT A UNION IN AND DID NOT CHANGE THERE MIND. YET! BUT EVEN THE ONES WHO HAVE NOT CHANGED THERE MINDS YET! DO NOT TALK ABOUT INFIGHTING AND WEAKNESS.

YOU KNOW WHY YOU USE THOSE WORDS, BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT IS GOING ON UP FRONT. YOU MAY NOT HERE IT. BUT WE DO ON THE FLOOR. ALL THAT HAPPENS UP FRONT GETS OUT ON THE FLOOR. SO THE INFIGHTING AND WEAKNESS IS IN YOUR OWN MIND MY LITTLE PUPPET..

WHAT STRINGS WILL BE PULLED THIS WEEK FOR YOU??

GET A LIFE! STIR YOUR OWN POT OF STEW.

WE ALL... THE 363 BROTHERHOOD HAVE OUR OWN BREW A BREWING. WE PROVED THAT ON THE GREAT AMERICAN STEAK OUT!!!!

NO STOPPING THE 363 TRAIN TO CONTRACT-VILLE

    TOOT! TOOT! CHUG-A-LUGA, CHUG-A-LUGA TOOT,TOOT

    OH AND P.S.

SAM HAS DONE MORE AND ACCOMPLISHED MORE IN ONE DAY THEN YOU HAVE IN SEVERAL MONTHS.

SO PLEASE KEEP UP WITH THE LAME TACTICS ALL IT DOES IS MAKES US STRONGER. IF THAT'S EVEN POSSIBLE AT THIS POINT!!

SO I'D LIKE TO THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ADDING MORE STRENGTH AND RESOLVE TO OUR ALREADY UNBEATABLE GROUP OF WINNERS. SOME TIMES IN LIFE WINNERS LIKE US NEED LOSERS LIKE YOU TO KEEP US A WAKE AND FEELING FRISKY. LOL YOU LITTLE JOKER YOU. PEOPLE LIKE YOU MAKE ME LAUGH A LOT.
