Whose Gonna Work For The Workin Man? IBEW Local 363 That's Who!

IBEW Local 363 is! And so are the people in MCC Newburgh! The people who work in this plant are good people and they are focused on doing what is right. We have already taken major steps in this journey for a contract.

There has been - for the first time ever - discussions between multiple employees about what is good and not good at the plant - from THEIR perspective. There have been open "general" discussions and solutions rendered already.

There have been choices made and opportunities taken. There have been compromises and agreements between people in crews about how to proceed. There have been people chosen to step up for the crew. There is an agreement to maintain PRODUCTION as our NUMBER ONE ISSUE.

There has been an interest peak in other workers. There is trust being formed. There is legitimacy being born. There is a good attitude toward getting a contract and toward the company itself.

There is dignity coming back and pride in ourselves and our work. We are moving forward and picking up supporters along the way.

We are now concentrating MORE on making cans and production and LESS ON WORRY.

We will succeed because we are united and we are determined. We ARE THE "WORKING MAN". We are just people working to make a living who want to not worry all day about what we have and don't have or what will be taken away.........

So.....

Whose gonna work for the working man?

IBEW 363 is...................How about you?

  2. Just got the email. Thanks Sam. I can see this gaining momentum. I have people who were not that interested starting to ask what things went like, that is a sign of good things to come. Thanks for all of your time and effort.

  4. Rich Bailey,

I'm expecting you to behave yourself on A-crew. A-crew is my crew. We are united under the IBEW and proud of it. You will not mess with any of my union brothers or SISTERS. We stand together now. Union strong and union made. So be a team "PLAYER" and lets make this work. If your anything like Ball says you are then you have a long road ahead of you. Remember the world is watching!

  5. The meeting on Thursday was great! We picked good people for stewards and negotiators that I know will do a great job. To all the big shots in St Louis and everywhere else, this is not going to go away. So work with us and we will work with you to make this the best company that it can be. The production numbers at the plant have been great! We had close to 6,000,000 last night. Proud to be a part of 363!

WHOA, WAIT A MINUTE! DID I MISS SOMETHING? Why should Bailey behave himself on A Crew? He's on B Crew. Did management promote this guy to be one of THEM? Were you looking to have a long career here Mr. B.? Then welcome, Mr.Sacrificial Lamb. Think ads (Real Men of Spoilage). AB had frogs, lizards a ferret, why not a sacrificial lamb? Look around at your new found friends. Now look at the people you will "lead". I hope you have a sense of humor. Your workers will be quite professional (but don't drop the soap),your collegues won't(don't drop the soap). Might as well buy a shitload of laundry pins, because they are gifting you. And when it doesn't pan out, YOUR NEW FRIENDS will be hanging your ass out to dry.To management, what are you thinking? Your bending of your own rules is the reason we are where we are. Are you this adolescent to think this will change the situation?
Mr Bailey, I hope your resume is still out there actively searching because you have hitched your wagon to the wrong star. If half the rumors are true (most are based in fact) you probably were only hired here because they wanted the skinny on how Ball operates, corporate espionage if you will. Look before you leap. By their own standards you are not qualified, and there are much better, proven, not qualified people than you here, makes people wonder why you are special, even though you're not. You have told at least three (3) different personal bio's to other TM's so, are you a liar? In their (management's) eyes you'll be a great manager. As someone said before, you ran the Chem area but you didn't know how it worked. Come clean.
Congrats to C & D on your elections of your reps. Let's move forward.

  13. 6:00PM - Now it is a better place to work now because you and your co-workers have elected to have a voice. Now you can come to the table with management and your concerns can be heard. It is the best tool to use to have labor and management really work in harmony and as a real team together.

It's just what big boys and girls do - they work together and get along.

7:06PM - glad to have you at the next meeting and all of the ones after. Make sure you talk to your crew rep if there is an issue you think needs to be discussed when we bargain.

    WHO CARES ABOUT RICH BAILY??

REALLY PEOPLE! DOES IT REALLY SURPRISE YOU ALL THAT MUCH???
HONESTLY THINK ABOUT THAT. IT'S ALMOST ALWAYS BEEN DONE LIKE THAT. JUST LOOK AT THE LAST TEAM LEADER.

NOW PLEASE EVERYONE IF IT HAPPENS IT HAPPENS SO BE IT.

IT'S NOT THE FIRST TIME AND WON'T BE THE LAST.

LET'S BE THE BIGGER AND BETTER HALF AND MOVE ON TO MORE IMPORTANT ITEMS.

WE AS A GROUP - A COLLECTIVE GROUP AND WHAT WE ARE STRIVING FOR IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT.

STAY THE COURSE,STAY FOCUSED I KNOW IT'S HARD SOMETIMES BUT. ALL OF THAT MANAGERIAL NONSENSE IS NOTHING NEW TO ANY OF US.

STAY THE COURSE, STAY FOCUSED!! WHEN WE PUT A GOOD CONTRACT TOGETHER THE REST WON'T MATTER AT ALL.

  19. another great job this week.above budget again with lots of hard work and the job got done. Everyone is getting along.I dont understand why the company was saying a union was a bad thing. Come on now Dan, have you seen anything bad go on since the union was voted in?Ok superintendants whats your opinions since the vote. You gotta admit things are going ok arent they. Even when things break down team members have been eager to get the job done.
UNION SIDE STRONG SIDE! GO 363

  20. That is what I see too! Things are better. Attitudes are better. Before we got the IBEW in here I felt like everything I had here was somehow on the downward slide. the company that I worked for changed and so did my level of trust of what was going to happen to ME. Now I have hope. I have a new good feeling about coming here. I am not a deaf mute anymore. I can talk and I can be heard. With that all put behind me now all I want to do is make this company money so they will have the ability to take care of me too.

If the company wants to preserve the "team" concept they rely so heavily on my suggestion is to help us make this work out with Sam and the IBEW as our representative.

We couldn't have picked a better or fairer and level headed union. We made the RIGHT CHOICE.

If somehow this turns into a big fight or some bullshit struggle for no other reason than a power trip for somebody you can kiss that team shit goodbye.

The IBEW plan is to make it WORK for us AND the company. They are doing this right. Are you seeing that now Tony?? I want my COMPANY representatives to join in that effort with my UNION.

Let's get to the table and really get along and work out our contract.

And then let's make some GD cans like we know how to do!

  22. to all of My fellow employees, I have a couple of questions. what has Sam done to deserve all of the praise for the increse in production? for the change in people? I think that the change is that the management has backed off of the workers trying to figure out how to handle us and how to prove to us that we were wrong in choosing and union. During this lull we are able to show the management that we are professonial and capable to work without their B.S. So how does Sam make cans? How is he going to help us when the management starts to place what ever plan they have into action? As we see they are going to place a manager on A crew to start the "Ball" rolling. One question I have is who has our best interest at heart? The Union? The company? or Us? lets go into this with our eyes open and a little paranoid over who's goals are best for us. If the management is going to come after us (as it appears to be with the Baily thing ) the we will have no choice but to go strongly for the Union. If the company is a little magnamious then we need to exam what the union will do for us. these things will come to lite soon and then i will know what i will do. until then i will remain uncommited and skeptical of all sides motivations. Remember we are each in it for ourselves, and join only out of our own self interest.

  23. For 8:28 AM
It is important to remember that "The Union" is us. When someone refers to "The Union" They are talking about us.
"The Union" didn't just come in on it's own, we brought it, we are it.
Local 363 is not going to do anything but represent US and give US direction. Sam, we have choosen to be our head. We are following his lead by choice. I for one, will take any direction he gives. I believe that we made the right choice and are on the right track. Sam is responceable for that and I thank him for his effort.
We still need to make our own decisions. Our front office and higher ups are clueless and I can't follow their lead.
I proudly wear my IBEW shirt and people that I don't know tell me that it was the right choice, even people in other unions and in other states.
I am happy with the direction we are going. We elected some good people last week as stewards and negotiators, we have to trust them and keep them informed for this to work.
We are "The Union" trian, and Sam is leading that train. All aboard!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. progentech,
i guess you will blindly follow Sam, as you said "I,, will take andy direction he GIVES".
well excuse me if i don't blindly follow anyone, not the company, you or the union. People have done many a bad thing following blindly. I for one will not go into the cave without a light. Remember you may have asked for the union but not all have, so if you want to jump in bed with someone that is your choice, and it is mine not to. at least for now. I know that the company is full of it and that they will screw me if they get a chance. but I dont want Two people screwing me, including one i have to pay for. I want to go to work earn my pay and go home. I will leave the B.S. to you the company and the Union. I know the company, I know what they did and expect what they will do. The union on the other hand I dont know. It is up to them to convince me that they will make my work life better, one way is how the negotiate the contract and how my fellow workers that are pro union and will blindly follow, to convince the people that didn't vote for the union that it is good thing. I dont believe that you will but I do believe that the management will screw things up so badly that one will have no choice but to go union. So I guess I may have to go quietly into that good night. concidering that the company has shown their intent by moving baily up. Can one say "Hello do not learn from your mistakes"

  27. Heres a news flash,8:28am, nobody willbe beging you to come along. We the majority are growing and our movement forward cannot be stopped now.
Nice try though. If you want to stand at the station while the train pulls away that is your choice. It is just getting harder to hear you with the whistle blowing and the engine revving up full steam.

Here is one thing the union did give to you. The chance to voice your opinion which you are entitled to even now even if it is as off base as it can get, it's still yours to express!

You should call sam and thank him for that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. wow,
I cant believe how things are going! I havent felt this good about my job since when I started. You know that I had my fear of bring in the union. I was afraid of the boogey man.I finally looked under the bed and the only thing I found was my old sticky playboys.

  29. We have to stop thinking that there is three parties here. It's not Sam (IBEW), the workers (hourly), and the company (ABI). Sam (IBEW) is not the union, WE ARE!! We make the contract not Sam. We make the cans not Sam. We have to decide what in our best inteset for us not Sam. The IBEW is just a tool that gave us a voice. We are using Sam just as much as Sam is using us. We need the unity, we need the power of numbers. I'm not busting my ass for Sam. I'm busting my ass because I know it makes sense to make numbers so that THE NORTH AMERICAN ZONE will be more willing to listen @ the table so we can get the best contract. I'm here for no other reason then to provide the best for my family. Open your eyes people and see the trees not the forest. Continue to do your best at work and get involved with the contract.

  30. Its easy to figure out who wrote the blogs about not trusting Sam. It doesnt matter that what you will do or dont do. It matters what WE do. WE voted yes.I agree with you that people should not follow blindly anyone anywhere. We should be always on guard against being taken advantage of. But I said WE. I hope that you could see that We have alot of people who are not going to stand by and get fucked. Thats why we called Sam. Listen, We have to hold him accountable for his actions as well.I have to tell you that by yourelf you alienate yourself from the group that wants to do good for all.I welcome you to help us and yourself and participate. Brito doesnt care what you think. Neither does Tony. They made that clear. If You want to join us and be a part of something that will help us all.Contact any of the Stewards and speak in private, they will be grateful to have you join us. Help US help You. We are extending out our hand. Take it and your peers will respect you for standing up for eachother

  39. I have an uneasy feeling about all the maintenance overhauls going on. Especially the new strappers. We will need one less tagger. Where will those people go? Sorter? Lay Off? Dan and Warren are way to happy to see all the work we're doing. There's more to it than meets the eye.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well let me be the one to cancel out 8:28 here. I am somebody who was known as a definite no in this plant. I have been watching what has been happening since the union came in and quite frankly, I like what I see. I see everybody doing what we are supposed to be doing. Working our asses off. Is it the union doing that? No, it is the people doing that. But they are doing it because they feel better at work now and really that is all due to the union. There has been fear in this plant since the sale. I always felt it too. But I didn't feel that a union would do anything for that. That is why I voted no. Now what do I see? Management promoting people differently than in the past. Almost in a strange way. That opened my eyes. What am I doing? What good can I do alone if the rules don't matter? I hate to say it but I need a union. Expect me to back you guys starting right now. Consider me a yes vote now.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Don't worry about the overhauls of equipment. It is needed to keep up with the technology. As far as lay offs go tell those who feel threatened they are now in a UNION, and will be supported, and in turn they should attend UNION meetings. Let your fears, opinions, needs, and wants be heard. THE BEST WAY TO REALIZE THESE THINGS IS TO ATTEND YOUR UNION'S MEETINGS! BE VOCAL, BE HEARD! Talk to your Shop Stewards, and Negotiators. PARTICIPATE! In the mean time if the company is investing mucho dinero ($$$$$) to upgrade and repair the facility it is a sign that we are in a stable, profitable position. They don't drop money to ditch the plant. And if they are in a hiring mood as they claim, lay offs don't sound like they are on the horizon.YES CONAN: This is great, it will be great and be improved with more participation. Maybe we should start an union CPIT team.
As for the "Bailey Affair", enough already! Who really cares! Go be a manager, You will probably be the most scrutinized person in this plant. By everyone. A relationship not built on trust. Good luck.
For everyone who feels slighted by this "rumor" does it surprise you? You did what you were told, played their game and lost. Now is the time for you to be union supporters and participants. You can be a part of making the company stick to the rules and policies.
And we are your supporters too.
Let's go make a contract we can all say we had a part in and made happen!

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's time to stop worrying about what has happened and concentrate on what will happen now that we are united in our work and united in our need to have a say in our future.

  44. I think that we made the best decision voting in the IBEW. This place is definitely changed for the better since that vote. Us preparing to negotiate and the whole meeting process has been very upfront and open. WE MADE EVERY DECISION. It is better than I thought it could be. and I feel like I need to help because it is about ME. It is a great feeling to vote on what happens to you. It's a great feeling to speak out loud about what you want to see happen at work. It's just a great feeling to meet together on our own to discuss our issues. There is nothing wrong with this at all and in fact everything is right.

I never said that I was blindly following anyone. I said WE need to make good desisions.
I have been going to the meetings and I like the direction we are headed.
WE are the "union". It is NOT a third party that is going to do something for us. It's OUR co-workers! It's US. We are making a difference for OUR/your benifit.
Be a part of it or take what you get, makes no difference to me. WE the "union" are here to stay. WE would like your input/support. It's still your choice.

    1. A contract
    2. A voice with what happens with our future
We need to all work together for our future as well as theirs
We need this plant to run good for the benefit of all of us
We need to make more cans

If you are not one of the reps and you have a request or an idea of something to be addressed, pass it on to your rep. We are ALL busy everyday following our plan. We will schedule a kickoff meeting before negotiations.
The next step in the plant is to keep the good attitude flowing and keep the number of cans made growing. Support your reps and support your union is the best next step any person can contribute here.

The most important thing is to stay safe, and give your best effort at work. Its normal that production goes lower during this time but dont get frantic just keep doing what youve been doing. Your all doing great, production is at optimum levels and safety is on the forefront of everyones mind. Thats IBEW professionalism. You people are good already!

    either your uinrealistic
    or your sarcastic.
wHy do you bother stating 4%
I didnt here that in any meeting ive been in so im guessing you havent attended anything recently, please show up to the next meeting we welcome your input or talk to a negotiator orshop steward. However if your being sarcastic, well your not worth the time.

    ReplyDelete
  63. sorry I meant unrealistic, all thumbs!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Is this deep or what? How do you follow that?
Well, lets reset the standard to this...
I just want to see that I am compensated fairly and have some security in my emplyment and can plan for the next years with some degree of certainty. I know everybody feels that way. Even the ones that voted no.
There are no more no votes now. We're all in this together. We have to make it work. So bring in your ideas and let's figure it out.
The first step is improved production and a good attitude. It comes natural now.
Step two is a contract. This is the test of the two sides. We know we are reasonable. I am not sure the company will be. I know they are working on their proposal and have been since the votes were counted... We'll see when the time comes.
For now all I know is that the two sides have a plan, everybody wants to know what the company has to offer because they will be judged by what they put on the table. It will be a measure of their appreciation for us. So keep that in mind you guys when you formulate your proposal.
The ball is in your court.
Let's see what you do with it.
The difference is now we can speak and are at the table. Nobody can dispute that. Not even those skeptics that question this whole thing. Think back last time they came into our meeting and gave us the package.
    Any questions?
    Not one.
We were all there, different meetings but still, all there.
    Same boat.
I can't tell you how betrayed I felt.
    No questions.
    Just looked down.
    No words.
Looked around and all I saw was the 1000 yards stare on your faces.
And what did we do? Went out on the floor and made a lot of cans.
    Or the breaks?
    No questions.
Or the many other times we were slammed with something?
Now we are organized, have a voice that they have to at least listen to and the safety of numbers. We may be the little fish but together we form a group that gets noticed.
Read this all of you that still have doubts. I want to know if after that you still have any on the direction we're headed.
There will always be doubts on the outcome.
    Until it's done.
Don't doubt the direction. No reason for that.
    Two differnt things.

  67. If we ask for 444 and get 333, we should take it.
Some people should just come along for the ride.

  70. For those that do not know Farmer Joe is an old friend of Dave Lehman. He brought him in on one of the preshift meetings to tell us that it isn't that bad even if we think it is.
Dave will he ever be back?
    Please.
    Pretty please!

FARMER JOE, APPARENTLY YOU HAVE BEEN BURIED IN YOUR HAY FIELD TOO LONG. YOU HAVEN'T BEEN TO ANY MEETINGS OR YOU HAVEN'T BEEN READING THE BLOGS.

IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT HOW BAD IT IS OR WAS.

DO YOU READ ANY OF THESE BLOGS AT ALL?

BECAUSE YOU REALLY COULDN'T POSSIBLY HAVE READ MOST OF THESE AND STILL ASK A QUESTION LIKE THAT!

WOW. JUST BOGGLES MY MIND SOMETIMES.

SEEING AS WERE LITTLE KIDS, MAYBE IF WE TRANSLATE IT INTO A CRAYON COLORING BOOK WITH PICTURES WOULD YOU UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN SAID ON HERE FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS???

  73. The question should have been not was it bad or good but was it written down? The answer was no and it was all slipping through our fingers because of that. That is the real issue down "on the farm".
Now go back and slop the pigs.

  75. So, 'hated new guy', what exactly are you quoting? It's obviously not scripture, rather, it's just a lame homily by some feel-good self improvement preacher.

By the way, just wanted you to know this- we all know who you're trying to say you are...and you're not hated, just despised. You need to understand, son, you've been playing jayvee, and your game is not gonna translate well to the varsity level. Your very choice of names for this forum tells us who you wish to be seen as, and the sh*t that ended up on Y:common at work is a fascinating study in egomania. As for 'will' and 'grace' you are truly clueless... for it is easy to act counter to God's will for a time, but in the end the bill comes due..

That's kinda how you showed up on our doorstep, now, isn't it?

    Hello,
Its time to move on and ignore the anti contract people. Ask the questions about a contract, process of negotiations and anything that moves the the cause of a CONTRACT forward.
State what you would like to see in a contract, whats important to you.keep it going for the good of all , dont worry about one individual. If you even acknowledge the negative individual, you have wasted yours and our resources. If you value what we are trying to accomplish, ignore the bad and start putting your efforts into the good for a contract. Bring out the important items. Your intelligence can either help us get a contract or waste time and effort to accomplish nothing. Which one do you really want.
